Cane-type begonias have been enjoying a renewed popularity over the last few years, one of the loveliest of the canes is Begonia 'Irene Nuss‘, which features glossy, dark green palmate leaves, with attractive wavy margins. Deep coppery-red backsides add drama to the foliage.

For many, the foliage would be reason enough to add this begonia to the garden but, yes, Begonia 'Irene Nuss' does flower and prolifically so.

Its copious, pendent panicles of bright pink flowers seem determined to outdo the handsome foliage, blooming from late spring to early fall.

Cane begonias are popular container plants, where their large, showy foliage can be featured to great advantage. They're also great indoors if situated next to a window giving it bright and indirect light.
